The Final - Description

The final will take place at 12:30 pm on Saturday 18th February 2011 in the School Hall of Eton College. Directions can be found at this page of the College's website.

This final comprises two events - the Winton Capital British Chess Solving Championship (which is closed) and an Open Solving event - running in parallel and using the same materials. For these events there is a large prize fund, which is as follows:

Notes:

  1. The Closed Championship will be made up of (1) those who are invited as qualified from the Postal Round and (2) the five previous winners of the British Chess Solving Championship - Jonathan Mestel, John Nunn, David Friedgood, Michael McDowell and Graham Lee.
  2. Anyone can apply to solve in the Open Event. Applications should be made to me, Brian Stephenson. You may use the 'Contact' item in the Main Menu on the left. Space at the event is limited so apply early.
  3. All contestants compete for the Open Cup and for the top seven prizes.
  4. All contestants with a solving rating less than 2300 compete for the rating prize.
  5. Only those in the Closed Championship - see (1) above - are eligible to win the Closed Cup or the closed minor prizes.
  6. A contestant may be eligible to win both cups, but can only win one, highest value, prize, with the lower value prize going to the next in line.
  7. Contestants travelling from overseas will have overnight hotel expenses (one night only) paid.
  8. Contestants in the Closed Championship will have transport travel costs, or car petrol costs, refunded.
  9. Seeded solvers are those who have previously won one of the top 3 prizes (not counting Open solvers) and enter the competition at the postal round stage. Unseeded solvers enter the competition at the starter round.
