Chris Williams (Rotherham) writes about a simultaneous display given by Capablanca in Sheffield in 1919. He has been able to date it to 8th October 1919 courtesy of Edward Winter's Chess Notes (No. 3490) which mentions a loss by Capablanca to one J. Parker at the event. That source also mentions that the concluding moves of Parker's win were given on p. 107 of the 2/1999 Quarterly for Chess History.
Chris sends two Capablanca wins from the event. In the first, against C. Crossland, Capablanca mistimed a rook sacrifice, and should have lost, but his opponent didn't grasp his opportunity for fame. In the other game, against E. Dale, Capablanca, after achieving a superior position, made a long series of sub-optimal, but still winning, moves. I suppose he was playing safe on this board while concentrating on the others.
If anybody else knows anything more about this event, especially any other games, I shall be very pleased to hear from them.
