Mate in 3

1.Qb8 (2.Se6+ Bxe6 3.Qh8#)

1...Rh1,Rg1 2.f4 (3.Qe5#)
                       exf3 ep. 3.Qf4#
1...e5 2.fxe6 ep. (3.Sf5#)
                       e3 3.Qf4#
                       Bxe6 3.Sxe6 #

In one variation White captures en passant, while Black does likewise in the other. The very tempting try (1.Qg3?), with the same threat as the key, fails to 1...Rg1! The construction looks very good. The only flaw is that 1...e5 in the set play and after the try is met by both 2.Qe3+ Rxe3 3.fxe3# (which is why the try is so tempting) and 2.fxe6 ep.
