Simple mutual hurdle paralysis. In the first variation the VA blocks the bPb6 allowing 2.LEd8# over the pawn. In the second variation the pawn blocks the VAO, allowing 2.LEa1# over the VAO. The by-play variation is just a simple unguard. For some reason I didn't note down the year of publication, but it would likely be somewhere in the 1990s.
