In the threat, the wMA goes to the only square it can go to and avoid providing a hurdle over which a white Chinese Piece will guard the mating square. In the first three variations, a black piecce plays to squares where it will provide a hurdle from a white Chinese Piece to the mating square, but, of course, this allows the wMA to land on that line, allowing 2...e5#. The final variation is a check which forces the wMA to recapture. Only a single mating move, but that is the whole point.
