Checkless Chess

In the first varation, Black defends against the threat by putting a guard on wPAd6, the threatened mating piece, but White can mate by 2.VAf6# and Black can't play to the 'flight' thus granted to him on c5 as that would be check to the wK, but not mate. The second variation shows the same idea, but this time the 'flight' is on e4. The third variation is a simple self-block.
