Checkless Chess
PAO g8:
VAOs c2, b4; h8
1.VAc3! () 1...PAxg6 2.Kg1 (3.Sd3#) 1...VAxe5 2.Kh2 (3.e4#) 1...b4 2.VAa4 (3.VAd7#)
In the first two variations, on his second move, White moves his king into positions where it is on a line with the black Chinese piece which has just moved. After this, on his third move, he checks giving the bK a 'flight' — but the 'flight' isn’t a flight, as by taking it the bK would be acting as a hurdle over which a black Chinese piece would check — and not mate — the wK.
